Why Bad Things Happen To You
"I believe each one of us is challenged to face our fears. If we don't, the issues will get bigger and bigger until we're forced to confront them."
- - Dr Joe Vitale
We live in a friendly Universe, and that Universe
supports us in our growth into our excellence. But
we don't always want to cooperate, because growth
is uncomfortable.
Sometimes we have to be drop kicked into growth!
I was thinking about this as I was re-reading the
interview with Joe Vitale in "Success: A Spiritual
Matter." In it Joe reveals some candid details of
his life that I don't remember him talking about
anywhere else.
One of those things was that his father, an ex-Marine
drill sergeant, was physically abusive. Now what
could be good about that, you might ask?
The answer has two parts. First, abuse is not good.
But things that are not good in themselves can
lead to good results. And it did for Joe.
To escape he buried himself in books, and in books
he eventually found the path that led him to the
success he has now. Not a direct path, to be sure,
because it led through homelessness, living in his
car and a shocking betrayal from a coach he
trusted.
Surprisingly, he credits being laid off from a job as
another key positive turning point in his life. I can
relate; it was for me, too.
So why do bad things happen to good people?
I think the Bible says it best; "All things work
TOGETHER for good.." Not that all things are
good in themselves, but together they are
working for your good.
You can look at the experiences of your life as
part of a recipe that is giving you the opportunity
to grow into your excellence. The difficulties cause
you to stretch and access abilities you may not
know you have.
It's ALL good, in the end.
Joe's not the only one who shares the pot holes
on his road to success. There's a dozen more
powerful interviews in "Success: A Spiritual Matter"
and you should get it here:
My favorite quote from Joe's interview is this:
"I've discovered that being afraid of ANYTHING
can stop me from having EVERYTHING. So
my rule is, if I fear it, I must do it."
And that's something to think about,
Wes
PS - If you've ever wondered if these good
sounding spiritual principles are really useful
and practical in the "real world" then the
interviews in SASM with world class business
people will settle it. They believe they're not
only useful, but essential, and they'll tell you why.
