How We Fool Ourselves

I happened to catch John Assaraf on TV last week
and the subject of the show was "why is it so hard
to change?" Have you ever asked yourself that
question?
John and the other guests had a spirited discussion
about the process and obstacles to change, but one
point stood out for me.
Near the end, John asked the host a simple question:
"If 6 frogs are on a lily pad and one decides to change
to another pad, how many frogs are left on the first lily
pad?"
The answer is............
It's still 6, bucko! Nobody moved.
As John said, " A decision to change does nothing.
You have to take action."
It's not a trick question. it's a mistake that we'll all
make if we aren't careful. We think because we have
a head full of plans of things that we've decided to do,
that we're on our way.
"I've decided to write a book"
"I've decided to get a new job."
I've decided to start an internet business."
Nah, you're still on the first lily pad. Nothing's moved.
Now if you have the book outlined and the first chapter
written, that's different!
If you have your resume updated and printed, a list of
candidate companies and you're networking like crazy,
that's different!
If you've got your first product, a domain name and a
web site under construction, that's different!
The first principle of physics and the first principle of
success are the same - "nothing happens until
something moves."
And by the way, just gathering information doesn't
count. There's nothing wrong with gathering info,
but don't confuse it with action. I have to kick myself
in the butt all the time to remember that. I could spend
my whole life reading just one more book, or newsletter,
or manual or course if I let myself.
You'll learn more faster by taking action then by
burying yourself in the library. Get the basics that
you need and then DO SOMETHING!
There are very few people in the world who get paid
for gathering information. I'm not one of them and
neither are you. We get paid for delivering value to
other people and/or businesses. That requires action.
So why is it that it's so hard to get moving? Well,
I guess that I'll have to cover that in the next
newsletter.
In the meantime, what's that idea or project you've
been delaying taking action on? You know the one
and you know all the reasons you've been telling
yourself that it's "not the right time." Horsepucky!
