Do You Feel Powerful?
“The thing always happens that you really believe in”
- - Frank Lloyd Wright
Do you ever wonder why some people seem to find it
easy to set big goals and achieve them? Do you ever
wonder why others seem to sabotage themselves at
every opportunity? New research just in sheds some
amazing light on these issues.
The interesting thing to me is that the researchers
weren't really studying goals, they were studying
power by looking at social or business situations and
seeing how people behaved if they felt powerful or
not. The results were very illuminating.
They found that people who did not feel powerful in a
given situation tended to doubt their own opinions.
Those who felt powerful, however, were much more
likely to trust their own opinions and take action! So
you can see that feeling powerful can be an essential
ingredient of success.
The other very interesting finding had to do with
perceptions of injustice or fairness. A person who
perceives a situation as unjust or unfair is not likely
to cooperate or behave rationally. They are more
likely to be rebellious or self-destructive.
So in your quest for success, how do you perceive the
world out there? Is it friendly and supportive, or is it
unfair and rigged in favor of others? I know that for years
I carried the view that life was grossly unfair based on
some childhood experiences. I don't believe that any
more but I can see how that belief affected my life,
and it wasn't good.
After all, if we believe to any degree that life is unfair
and we don't have the power to change it, we're not
going to be very successful in improving our lives. We
might even sabotage ourselves.
So these new findings shed important light on how you
can achieve goals and create success. The first step is
to understand your power to create what you want. If you
don't believe that you have that power, you'll continue to
fall short of any goals.
Look around you right now and realize that everything
you have in your life you've already created. if you don't
like it, you have the power to create something different.
If you find that you have trouble taking action, it's likely
because you don't feel powerful. And we know that
unless we take action, nothing happens!
If you believe that life is unfair or rigged in favor of others,
you can work on changing that. Know that we live in a
cause and effect universe governed by natural laws and
those laws work the same for everyone. Some people
may be unfair, but the universe is not. Even the Bible
says, "Whatever a person plants, that's what they will
harvest." Cause and effect, and you control the cause.
What could be more fair than that?
So take a close look at your beliefs and see if you can
find the signs of belief in powerlessness or unfairness.
If so, begin right now to teach yourself the Truth about
yourself and the universe. Start small and work up to
bigger things as your confidence improves. You're
powerful and the universe is on your side!
To your success,
Wes
