What's the "333" Story?

How To Change People

As some of you know, I'm writing a book on how to
create successful relationships. I suffered badly in this
area for years, and when I finally figured it out, I thought
there might be a few others who would like to know how
to do it. Turns out I was right. You can read about it at

I get a lot of questions submitted to me from that site
and the most common one is "I'm madly in love with
Mr/Ms Wonderful and how do I get them to be madly in
love with me?"
When I thought about it, I realized that the answer to
this question is important in a lot of areas of our lives,
not just our love life.
It's about people. What do we do when people won't do
what we want them to? In business, in families, in social
organizations, in love. What do we do? How do we
change people?
Well, here's the first bit of blindingly obvious insight:
people don't like to be changed! In fact, they can get
downright hostile when you try. If you've ever been
on the receiving end of someone trying to change
you, you know how it feels.
In some cases, with coworkers or your kids, you can
find ways to create motivation for change, but to be
effective it must be positive motivation - pulling them
toward something they want. Negative motivation is
very ineffective and creates resentment, so fear and
punishment are a last resort.
In reality, the only person you can change is you. If
you have business or romantic partners that need
changing, and you can't or won't change to make the
relationship work for you, then you need to change
them - by replacing them.
Now here's the most important idea for you to take
away from this article. If you are in relationships where
the other people need changing, ask yourself why you
are doing that.Why do you choose to have people like
that in your life? If you don't figure that out, the new
people will be just like the old ones!
For most of us, if we have repetitive patterns in people,
it's a sign of an old issue of some kind buried in our
subconscious. We can change the people, but if we
don't change the pattern we just keep having the same
problems over and over.
Do you have any "problem people patterns" in your
life? Look back in your life all the way to your
childhood and see if you can find the first time you
felt that way. You will find the buried issue in the
memory of the earliest occurrence.
