What's the "333" Story?
Suppose you were given the task of finding out
how you could raise $3 million in a 3-hour window
just 3 days from now? Sounds pretty impossible,
doesn't it? Yet the story of how it was done provides
one of the best problem solving techniques I've ever
found, and you can use it on any problem!
Perhaps you're trying to grow a business. You might
want to hear Paul Hutsey tell how he took his
insurance office in the little town of Pittsburg, Kansas
to #1 in the whole country - more sales than New York,
or Chicago, or Los Angeles. His solution can be
applied to any business, including yours.

The Razor's Edge

I wrote a newsletter on this principle for the Daily
Gratitude list last month, and discussed how you
can use it to improve yourself. If you didn't see it,

For my Create Success subscribers, I want to look
at this from a different viewpoint - how you can use
it to greatly increase your success. Although the basic
idea - do just a little bit more - is the same, here's
some ideas on how to apply it.
We're all selling something. If you're in your own
business, or in sales, you know how vital selling is.
Even if you're a non-sales employee, you're selling
yourself. How do we differentiate ourselves so that
our customers will choose and value us over their
other choices?
In "Science of Getting Rich" Wallace Wattles calls
this factor "use value." He tells us to always give more
in use value than we take in cash value. That little
extra can be the razor's edge difference in our
results.Think of the businesses you choose to
patronize. I'm sure you can think of some little things
they do that make it a better experience for you.
In his "Born Rich" program, Bob Proctor has a section
on the razor's edge principle and he gives this example.
An auto repair shop had everything they needed to
succeed - except customers. They found the razor's
edge for them was taking the time to clean, vacuum
and wash the cars before the owners picked them up.
That little extra "use value" had nothing to do with the
repair, but it left a good impression that led to powerful
word-of-mouth for their business.
For your business your razor's edge might be an
unexpected bonus, or an extra service, or some
personal attention that makes your customer go "Wow!"
The best choices are ideas that make the customer
feel special and appreciated, so discounts or coupons
are not the best choice unless you use them in
conjunction with some other benefit that's more
personal.
Take a look at the businesses in your field, or the
other employees in your office, and look for an
opportunity to do or give just a little bit more,
something unexpected, and it just might be the
razor's edge for you.
The nice thing about the razor's edge is that the
little extra comes back to you multiplied many times!
Being 1% better can double, triple, quadruple your
income. Just ask any race horse, or athlete. Or
salesperson.
